Advertising Methods for Your Business Website
|

|

Advertising methods are a big question for any company especially smaller ones that have
very limited resources to dedicate to advertising. As the Internet public evolves, so must
your advertising methods. Fortunately, there are some highly useful alternatives to the
common ad that can greatly increase click-through and create a better deal for both the
advertisers and site owners.
Pop it up
This is now a very common way to attach advertising onto pages that your loading. As the
page you want is loading hear comes a smaller window into the for ground with the ad
complete with link for more information. This use to be a very effective sales tool
but its over use has also become as annoying banner ads. Additionally now that most browsers
and toolbars now come with pop up blockers this method is now less efective at delivering your message.
A similar form of advertising is now being placed in between pages. It involves either a standard
pop up window or a 5-10 second
Shockwave Flash or Real Media ad, which appears in between a link to an article or
main page on a site. Prices for this are usually relatively expensive compared to more
conventional forms of promoting, but these ads are usually a little more effective but still not
highly recommended as a large traffic driver.
Ezine Advertising
Ezine advertising is the a common alternative to the traditional promotion methods. A
catchy 5-10 line plug will be situated towards the top or in the middle of a newsletter of article similar to
the one your reading. These usually have a high CPM (cost per million impressions). The most effective Ezine ads
are those which are not easily distinguishable as advertisements that break up the text of a
feature article. They must also interest your audience. Don't try to fool your readers into thinking
that an advertisement is really just your content, and don't let your content be prejudiced by advertiser
affiliations in anyway. Your readers will see through it, un-subscribe and never come back.
Text Content
Content sponsorships are fast becoming the staple on successful web site. Google AdWords is the prime example
of the success of text ad content. This will
generally consist of 2-5 lines of clickable text featuring a news clip or plug for a company.
Text ads are effective and desirable because they flow easily into any page, increasing
comprehension for the user with very little formatting changes required by the Web
master. Additionally, the drain on bandwidth is nothing and users can download the page
just as quickly. In this arrangement, a company sponsors a specific section of your site in
exchange for their name being added to the section. The advantage for the advertiser is
they can target not just your site, but the exact audience they want. This is also a great
way to put changing content on your site offering your visitors a great reason to return.
